Like A Cat’s Life

Technology change people’s lives. I think it is true. With the development of technology, people’s life have become more convenient than before in almost every country around the world. Due to that, modern people's lives have gradually depended on the speed and convenience brought by science and technology, most like a cat. They only move when they need to do something by themselves. In recent years, Chinese people have come up with many solutions for how to make life more convenient. These achievements from the power of science and technology that have made many Chinese people who have just emigrated or traveled abroad miss these convenience in China a lot, especially me.

When I just arrived Chicago, the simple public transportation made me crazy. In China, high-speed rail and subway have become a new business card to the whole world. Even though my hometown is a small city, the city's public transportation can satisfy people to go to all places they want to go, which is not only convenient and fast, but also free of traffic jams. However, because most train system in the U.S are very old, the systems are less efficient. Unfortunately, I live in Skokie, which is a suburb north of Chicago, and it far from the Loop. There is only one subway line to Chicago or other places which have a train station. That means I can not go other places without driving. Because of this, I am more like a cat now than before, because I hardly go out except when necessary.

In addition to the old train system, there are different ways to pay in China. In order to reduce the loss of wallets, the inconvenience of carrying cash and credit cards, Chinese people created an online payment application on the mobile phone called “Alipay”. Therefore, people can pay for everything they need by this app in their daily life, and they also use this app for financial activities such as money transfers. However, as soon as I came in the U.S., I could not realize the importance of carrying wallet. Therefore, I could not place the order when I went to the restaurant and market, because I always left my wallet at home. In addition, I could not do anything without wallet if some people needed my ID when I put them in my wallet.

Besides these, food delivery has gradually become another different thing between China and the United States. Food delivery has almost become a daily necessity for Chinese people, so a new app called “Meituan” was born a few years ago.The main function of this app is to serve as a bridge between customers and restaurants, it collects almost all the restaurant information, customers can check the information and place an order through the app, then they can get the service of delivery to their home. This app not only brings more convenience to customers, but also brings many employment opportunities for people to be a deliveryman. Besides, people don not only demand food delivery, but also want to buy other goods, such as grocery and product. As a result, as long as you place an order on this app, deliveryman will collect all your needs and then sent them to you. When I came to the United States, I found out that the United States also has delivery services, but most of them are ordered through the restaurant’s own web page. The deliveryman serves the restaurant only, and people can not purchase anything else. We need to pay tips, by the way.

In China, the development of technology is closely related to people's lives. People are trying their best to provide convenience in all aspects of life to save more time and create value, so that people can take the fastest train everywhere, they can go everywhere without wallet, and they can find everything they want online and delivery to them. Because of this, people are more and more like a cat enjoying the convenience of life every day.
