Made in China
Made in China
Some Americans who have never been to China, hold the impression of a poor and backward country from films or literature, but they are wrong. An American movie, The Perfection, was released in 2018, which mentioned a little part about what China looks like. In the movie, two girls walked through a ruined alley in Shanghai and brought two tickets to take an extremely old and shabby bus, which seemed like had never have been cleaned. Actually, it is impossible to find such an old-fashion bus in China as the movie. Most people could not imagine how fast China has developed over the past decade. Nowadays, one of the advantages of living in China is a progressively convenient lifestyle. I was overwhelmed with the easy life experience in China, but it is hard to enjoy these resources and services in the United States.

Finally, I could experience a comfortable Internet environment in China. When I lived in China, I used to surf the Internet always with rocket speed. For the cheapest monthly fee of a cell phone card, it cost about five dollars a month with a 20 GB high-speed data plan. Furthermore, I could connect to free WIFI in many places whether a club, a mall, or even on a flight. When I walked into a restaurant, the first thing I did was ask if they had free WIFI there. Unfortunately, I can not experience the convenient Internet condition in the United States. Not only is the monthly data fee expensive, but also the data is slower. After I used all of the 4 GB high-speed data, the only choice is to use the slower speeds. Therefore, the web page always shows loads that the page is loading when I try to open a video, which makes me crazy.
When I first came to the United States, I did not realize that I was accustomed to the easier payment alternative, the faster delivery service, and the more convenient Internet access in China. There is no doubt that I experienced a convenient life in China. Although I am used to living in the United States now, sometimes I still miss the convenience of China and the missing as if the warm wind blowing to my heart. The tags of “Made in China” exist everywhere like clothing, shoes or furniture, yet “Made in China” means backward for some Americans. I believe that if those who have a misconception visit to China, they might change a new tag of “Made in China” - innovation and the convenient life.
I feel exactly the same as you. In China, if people pay cash would be not accepted, but in the United Stated, especially in Chinatown, most of stores just do cash only. I feel disappointed and miss China. I also think many Americans have a stereotype of China, they do not know a lot about China. They think China is a poor country and the technology in China is backward, but I really want to say something, that is not true. I am glad to read your essay about it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment. I dislike cash pay because I'll get coins back every time.
DeleteAiling~I have the same feeling with you! I really miss the convenient Wechat Pay and Alipay. Besides, I enjoy online shoppings in China because they almost deliver fast. I also consider the Internet in here is so poor? slowww....
ReplyDeleteIt's slow. I download software with about 500kb/s on my computer last week. In China, the speed of software download can up to 3m/s.
DeleteIn my country, people mostly go out to buy things more than buying it on online. I thought that the U.S. have the fastest delivery services until after I read your essay that I was wrong. Now I know that China has really fast delivery services than the U.S.
ReplyDeleteIf you have a chance to experience Chinese online shopping, you may become an online shopping lover. : )
DeleteI agree with you that a lot people don't like to buy when they see a tag, make in China. I don't have that kind of stereotype and when I buy, I look at the quality and it doesn't bother me about where it exported from.
ReplyDeleteYou're right. The tag is not important. I focus on the design, the price and the quality when I go shopping.
DeleteHello Ailing. I also miss Korea about internet speed, too. In Chicago, even in downtown, internet does not work very often. It is very slow. But you can do many things instead of using your phone!
ReplyDeleteI think it's time for the U.S. to apply 5G.
DeleteHi, Ailing. I miss everything in my home country. The internet, safety, and nightlife. In the U.S. even you are in huge city like Chicago, but the internet for mobile phone still too slow, you know sometimes I can't use my phone when I'm in subway
ReplyDeleteEven in Guangzhou metro, people can connet free wifi there, so people don't worry about NO SIGNAL.
DeleteIt was interesting story. I didn’t know that in China delivery is so fast. In my country, delivery, and internet connection way poor than US, so I think US is good enough.
ReplyDeleteFor me, delivery is slower than what I experience in China. I prefer to shop in a store now.
DeleteI like your title very much. I also have same idea that China is poor and backward. This is a single story :( because I always see "Made in China" at packages. In Turkey, online shopping is not very developed, so delivery is too slow. Because of this, our experience is opposite.
ReplyDeleteIt's kind of you to praise my essay' s title. It's not bad that we can experience different things in different countries.
