An Interesting Love

Do you like your name? Name is a different love from parents, it always include parents’ hope and best wishes to their child. Especially, there is a special science to get a name in China. In short, each parent will not only include their expectations and blessings for their children when naming their children, but also consider whether each word helps their children's life. Therefore, it always be the first hard job for each parents. However, it very different for me.

I have an interesting name with the same last name and first name, whatever the letters and pronunciation but it has different Chinese characters. My father gave this name to me. Before I had this name, my grandfather prepared another name to me. It was a historical girl’s name, she was a beautiful and great girl in Chinese history, so my grandfather hoped I could be a good girl like her. However, my father did not like it. He thought I was a gift for him and my mother, and at that time he loved my mother very much. Therefore, he decided to put his last name and my mother’s last name together --- Yan Yan. It was a sweet story. Actually, it was only a story. When I grew up, my father told me, for my name, it was a very hard work for him and he really did not like the name from my grandfather, so he put his name and my mother’s name together to be a special name for me.

I know there is a big love in my name, but it also makes me confused when I talk about my last name and first name in English to my foreign friends. Moreover, I can not divide others last name and first name. Although it can be a little nervous when I talk about English, it has a beautiful meaning in Chinese. My first name “颜” in Chinese meaning is color, so I give a new wish to myself. I hope I can be happy everyday to have a beautiful life in the future with different colors.
