Same Plight, Same Heart
Same Plight, Same Heart
Recently, a very serious disease has broken out in China, the New Coronavirus. It caused 2666 Chinese people to die and had a great influence to the whole country, and to the whole world. This situation reminds me of SARS, which was also a highly infectious virus in 2002. At that time, the virus affected people’s daily life, students couldn’t study well, many factories closed, and everyone felt panic. That was a hard time for my family. Our material and spiritual life were infected by SARS. However, with the love and support from my family members, we were able to overcome it and eventually recover from it.
One of the difficulties my family had faced was the decline in the living standard. Our material life was no longer as good as before. First of all, my father’s furniture factory was forced to close. Because of the virus, many laborers could not go to work, so the factory couldn’t complete customers’ orders. Some of the orders were from abroad, and they cancelled the order because they were afraid to be infected by the virus. This caused the factory to go into debt. My father sold his car and went to work by bike. My mother was pregnant at that time, but she still insisted on handling these problems with my father. Though my parents made a great effort to save the factory, unfortunately, the factory still closed. After the factory closed, my parents were busy dealing with their customers and borrowing money to pay them back. They didn’t have time to have a good sleep or they even can’t have proper meals. Even though my parents didn’t get infected, the virus ruined my parents’ health.
the difficulties in material life, their spiritual life was also influenced. Because the factory had closed, my parents felt deeply helpless and easily got angry. They often argued with each other about the factory. My sister would hide in her room and cry when they had an argument. Sometimes my father needed to have dinner with customers, and he would drink a lot of wine and come back late. My mother would wait for him to come back and take care of him. Even though they would argue a lot, my mother did love my father very much. In addition, similar to my parents, the virus also affected my sister. My parents thought that they didn’t have enough time to take care of my sister, so they sent her to a boarding school. She was just in primary school at that time. It was a terrible memory for her. Until now, my sister still regards that as toughest time in her childhood.
Fortunately, my family recovered from the SARS, and my father opened a new factory, even though we are not as rich as before, it can basically satisfy the needs in our daily life and they could afford my sister and I to study abroad. My sister didn’t have a perfect childhood, but she has a much more wonderful life now. Thanks to going to boarding school, she is more independent than peers, and she can fit in the new environment easily. For my parents, they are the sweetest couple in my eyes. Because they have faced so many difficulties, they never gave up on each other. They supported each other and they could understand each other in their way. I feel very grateful for what I have now, and all these things have used my parents’ sweat and my sister’s tears for exchange. I will be grateful every day I spend and make my biggest effort to make my life outstanding and rewarding, because my life contains my family’s love and expectation for me.
After experiencing the SARS and suffering from the mental and physical plight, my family have a more tacit understanding of each other than before and we have become stronger. Now, we are facing the same problem as SARS and even worse, but I have confidence to overcome it, because we are not alone. We have our family to support us and we have the same heart to overcome it. Even though my family and I are not in the same country now, our hearts are connected and I ho
I have a very similar experience with you. in 2002, my father's restaurant was shut down because of SARS, and my family was greatly affected at that time. Now, the impact of virus in the U.S is growing, and parents are worried about my safety in China, but like you, we also firmly believe that we can overcome this difficulty.
ReplyDeleteMy parents also have faced dangerous situation like your family and they were able to overcame it because they supported and believed in each other. We also need to be brave and be supportive to each other to be able to overcome this case.
ReplyDeleteZhuoyu~My mother always feel angry with my father when he drinks more and comes home late. Then my mother will scold him while taking care of him. She does the same thing just like your mother. :)

ReplyDeleteHi. It was very hard time for your family. I haven't experienced same situation, but my father, my husband, and me lost our job and our career lives five years ago. Now, we are in the U.S, and life shows us a lot of different things like corona-virus.
ReplyDeleteIt is interesting story. I like your conclusion. In this days we all need to be strong and patient. Hopefully this will end soon...
