A Shiny Stone

 A Shiny Stone
In English, my name means a gift from God. In Urdu, it means a specific or special thing,
which is very gleaming, even more than a diamond. In Spanish, it means day or tomorrow. I feel
that my name is very popular in different countries. But in Pakistan, it is a very unique name.
Usually, parents that have only one child have the name, Anaya. In my family, I’m the only one
who has this name, no one had it before. My name doesn’t have a back story really. My father
chooses my name, but my mother didn’t like it. She wanted to call me Laiba or Sameen. Laiba
means a beautiful woman and Sameen means precious and expensive. In fact, she still calls me
by her favorite names. I have at least four different names. My father calls me Mano, my siblings
call me Manay, and friends call me as Anaya. When I grew up, I felt so mortified when everyone
calls me by different names. But now, I’m used to it. I really like my legal name, Anaya. I don’t
want to change it. Even, I like those names too which I didn’t like it before. Now, whenever my
parents and siblings call me by Anaya, it is a very scary moment for me because I feel like I did
something wrong that’s why they call me Anaya with a serious accent. In my culture, parents
don’t get mad about their daughters. If parents are angry with their daughters, they just them
with a serious accent.
