Please Call Me Kailin

My name is Kailin Luo(罗凯琳), which is the pronunciation of my Chinese name. I got this name from my mother and an aunt who suggested kai(凯). Then my mother came up with lin(琳)to match kai and finally combined them to create my name.
Over the years, I have been asked this question many times, what is the meaning of your name? In fact, there is no story or any special meaning about my name. The biggest reason why I am called Kailin is just because it is easy to read not only in Mandarin and Cantonese, but also in the Taishan dialect which is the language of my mothers hometown. Regardless of this, I like my name. According to my own understanding, I think my name means cheerfulness, success, and preciousness. Besides, I think Kailin sounds good when someone calls me.
In China, I used Karen as my English name, which was from my textbook in the middle school. It was an easy translation of Kailin that is Karen. However, I want to keep using Kailin in Chicago because Karen is so common and ordinary in foreign countries.

    1. Thank you, Annie~ I also like the name Karen that I had kept using in China until I came here. In America, I want to keep my Chinese factor in my name because it is my real name! Sometimes I think Kailin is not easy for some people to pronounce, but you always correctly read my name! :)

  3. Hi Kailin I like your name because it seems easy to learn and pronounce. For my age it is not easy to memorize a name lol. Personally, I like the way Kailin sounds more than Karen. Karen is a very common name throughout the world.
