Have A Unique Name, Hyehwan
My name is Hyehwan Ryu. My parents gave to me.
My older brother and I have same letters in our names which is ‘hwan’. In
addition, my two cousins’ names also include ‘hwan’. It is kind of our family
tradition and that means bravery.
Honestly, I don’t love my name. Even though I know my parents spent a
long time contemplating choosing the name, but it’s too difficult. When I was a
child, no one could spell my name, and they could not remember it, either. So I
used to cry because I thought that nobody remembered me. However, now I’m
getting used to liking my name abroad. I realize my name is not very difficult
compare to other Korean names for foreigners. While many foreigners can
pronounce my name, they cannot pronounce many other Korean names. Furthermore,
my friends can pronounce, spell, and remember my name. Some friends say, my
name is unique and pretty. If I have a baby in the future, I would like to give
a unique name like me. I’m sure she can understand my feeling and people would
love her name, too.
Hi: Hyehwan
ReplyDeleteI like your name because its pronounce is mild. I sorry about I can't pronoun it very well until now, but I will learn and do it well in the future.
Hi Hyehwan~To be honest, I cannot remember how to spell your name in the beginning....But it is not much difficult to pronounce after calling you a few times. Don't worry about that no one can remember your name because it is special. You are my first Korean friend I meet in my life, I will remember you~ :>
ReplyDeleteHi Hyehwan! I realize that your name is special in Korea because I rarely hear the name Hyehwan on the Korean shows. I think "Hye" might means intelligent, so you are a smart and brave girl just like your name. By the way, I am wondering if your background of the picture was in Chejudo.
ReplyDeleteI have the same feeling as you when I was a child, my name is too difficult to write for me, so every time I write my name, the characters are ugly. Because of this, my teacher punished me to write twenty times when I was in primary school.
ReplyDeleteHello Hyehwan. I liked reading your story. I also think you have a strange and a little difficult name to remember. However, I think you have a unique name that I have never seen or heard. I think it would be very nice that you continue with the tradition of your parents, give your children a unique name.
ReplyDeleteActually Chinese naming traditions are also similar to those in South Korea, where siblings like to have names with the same letter.
ReplyDeleteHi Hyehwan.
ReplyDeleteYour name, your brother name, your cousins names have 'hwan', and it is interesting and funny. Its meaning is perfect. I didn't know this tradition. If people don't remember my name, it makes me sad. I understand you.
