An Amazing Name

An Amazing Name
My name means kindness and honesty. My grandmother gave me this name when I was a child. She chose this name because it meant a lot to her. That is why she used to tell me that this name was magic because she could see something huge in me. She wanted to give this name to her daughter. However, she just had two children. Moreover, my grandmother told my father that when he had a daughter, she desired him to name her Annie because it means hopes and happiness. From the moment she saw that my mother was pregnant, she wished that I was a girl so she could name me Annie.
My grandmother was Christian, and her favorite pastor was called Annie too. She used to tell me that her pastor said, “Annie is something big, Annie means a strong woman with a lot of skills in life”. My grandmother was an astonishing woman and she was always happy. I never saw her crying about anything, she was always with that big smile on her face. I remember that she used to read to me a lot of books before going to bed. She even wrote a song with my name. She used to sing that song after reading me a book. However, I did not have the time to ask her why that name was so significant to her. Unfortunately, she died when I was eight years old and I did not pay attention to those amazing things that she used to tell me about my name. I was little and at that time I did not see the importance of my name to her. Now that I am older and an adult, I wish I could ask her all those things that I have always wanted to know about my name.

  1. Hi Annie, I think your name is so meaningful after reading your article! I think if someone's name given by last generation, it will mean a lot. So I admire that you attained your name from your grandmother.

  2. Hello Annie. When I lived in Colombia I never had or met a friend named Annie. I think it is not a common name in my country. Thanks to your grandmother, you have a pretty name, but I am very sorry that you lost your grandmother. It would have been interesting that she herself had told you the meaning of your name.
